The BBC has reported that there was a 10-minute delay in one of the backup generators starting up at the Royal Victoria Hospital during power cuts in Belfast on Monday 27th February.
According to the report, the Belfast Health Trust is investigating the incident and whether it had any impact on patient care. The fault in the NIE transmission network cut power for a short time and affected 27,000 customers in south and west Belfast. The incident highlights the importance of regularly maintaining and testing mission critical infrastructure such as backup generators.
Mission Critical Power magazine will be exploring the importance of generator maintenance and testing in the forthcoming April 2017 issue.
