GenCell, the fuel cell power solution provider and manufacturer, has announced that it is hosting a webinar, “How to Reach Faster Power Restoration”, taking place on November 5th, 2018 at 9am (PST) / 12pm (EST). The webinar will feature insights from Stephen Johnston, Growth Development Manager of San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), on the benefits of utilising fuel cells to extend DC backup power for a relaxed blackstart process. Johnston will outline how fuel cells provide ultra-reliable back up power, enabling SDG&E to reduce the impact of power outages – while supporting the company’s sustainability goals.
Attendees will also hear from Gil Shavit, President & Chief Business Development at GenCell Energy, who will provide an overview of GenCell’s utility-focused GenCell G5rx backup power fuel cell solution, which has been designed with close collaboration from SDG&E. Currently being deployed by early adopters within the utility sector, attendees will learn how the fuel cell ensures continuous control of critical utility substation assets, allowing operating systems to keep running throughout power outages and enabling utilities to keep auto-reclosers powered up during extreme weather events. The GenCell G5rx is claimed to operate 10 times longer than existing back up power sources and is also suitable for use in urban environments.
“Utilities can now enjoy all the benefits of fuel cells, such as ultra-reliability, unlimited runtime, zero emissions and noise, but for the first time there is now a business case for utilities that competes commercially with traditional backup power solutions,” comments Shavit. “We’re witnessing more utilities moving towards renewable and alternative solutions as they seek to improve reliability of service and recognise the need to reduce reliance on short duration batteries and noisy and polluting diesel generators that need regular and expensive maintenance programmes.”
